Canvassing Team to Conduct Door-to-Door Water Service Line Inspections in Lancaster City June 25 to 28

June 24, 2025 | Bureau of Water Department of Public Works

The City of Lancaster is halfway to its goal of completing the customer portion of its lead service line inventory, an important milestone in complying with federal drinking water regulations. To help complete the inventory, representatives from the EPA’s Get the Lead Out (GLO) initiative will be conducting door-to-door canvassing from June 25 to 28 in neighborhoods across the northwest, southeast, and northeast areas of the city.

GLO canvassers will work in small groups accompanied by a City of Lancaster staff member. They will wear identification, carry iPads, and request brief access to inspect water service lines, which are typically located near water meters in basements. Inspections take approximately five to 10 minutes.

Customer cooperation is greatly appreciated, as it helps keep costs down for everyone. Customers who would prefer to self-report their service line material may do so by following the instructions available at waterline.cityoflancasterpa.gov. Those who have already submitted their information do not need to take any further action. Customers who are unsure whether their property has been reported can consult the interactive map on the same website.
