UPDATED: Three Alarm Fire on New Year’s Eve

Update 12/31/22 2:38PM – One resident, aged 18, died in the Saturday morning fire at 427 W. Lemon Street. The victim’s name is not being released at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.


Original Post – Two residents were injured on Saturday morning in a fire at 427 W. Lemon Street. The Lancaster City Bureau of Fire was dispatched at 10:36 AM to the home in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood. Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from a 3-story duplex.

Firefighters quickly rescued two victims from the home and provided immediate emergency medical care. The victims were transported to Lancaster General Hospital in life-threatening condition.

The incident was upgraded to a third alarm, bringing approximately 50 firefighters from approximately 7 responding agencies to the scene. The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Lancaster City Fire Marshal Division, Lancaster City Bureau of Police, and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s office are working collectively to determine the cause of the fire. It is not known if the home had working smoke detectors.

The City of Lancaster would like to thank the responding agencies who assisted the Bureau of Fire in containing the fire.

The Lancaster City Bureau of Fire reminds all residents to:

  • Install smoke detectors on every floor and in every bedroom.
  • Test your smoke detectors every month by the pressing the “test” button.
  • Ensure every person in your home understands and practices your home fire escape plan twice a year.
