What We Do

The Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) reviews applications for exterior modifications to properties within the Historic District, and makes recommendations to City Council.

The HARB is made up of seven individuals appointed by City Council to review all applications for new construction, demolition, and exterior alterations to buildings within the historic district. The HARB includes one registered architect, one licensed real estate broker, and the City’s Chief Building Official. The remaining four members are citizens who own property or live within the historic district.

The HARB members review applications carefully, discuss the project with the applicant, and assess the proposed physical changes using the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards as guidelines.

HARB MEMBERSHIP

The Historical Architectural Review Board (HARB) is composed of seven members who are appointed by City Council to three-year terms.  One member of the HARB must be a registered architect, one a licensed real estate broker, and one the City’s Building Official. The remaining members are individuals who own property or reside within the HARB district and have knowledge of, or interest in, the preservation of buildings and historic districts and modern urban design.
