BENEFITS OF STREET TREES

Environment

Trees improve water quality, reduce air pollution and increase biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

Social

Tree-lined streets make neighborhoods more desirable, healthier and safer places to live.

Economic

Tree-lined streets increase residential and commercial property values.

Street Tree Planting Program

The City of Lancaster offers an affordable Street Tree Planting Program to all residents and businesses. The program is free of charge except for the cost of the tree. The City Arborist will help you pick a tree, conduct a site evaluation, prepare the planting site (including concrete removal), and plant the tree.

Permit for Tree Work

All work on trees in the public right of way requires a free permit from the City Arborist. Public rights of way are lands reserved for travel (motorists, cyclists, pedestrians) such as streets, sidewalks, alleys, pathways, and trails.

You can use Fix it! Lancaster to report tree problems like broken or hanging branches, a dead tree, or overgrown trees or shrubs.

Street Tree Care & Maintenance
