What We Do
The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) is composed of four bureaus that work together to build strong neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in Lancaster City. The department manages a range of programs aimed at facilitating safe and affordable housing options, supporting business and job creation, improving the quality of the built and natural environments, championing the design of civic spaces and facilities, and ultimately protecting and enhancing the health and wellness of community members.
CPED engages with stakeholders across its programs to gather meaningful input in executing its mission. The department also actively collaborates with other agencies, community organizations, and neighborhood associations to promote the equity, prosperity, and sustainable development of Lancaster City.
dditionally, the department administers federal funds and requirements for the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) program, and state grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Through these programs, the City allocates millions of dollars to community priorities and organizations, focusing on the preservation and creation of safe, affordable housing and the prevention and mitigation of homelessness.
