Community Outreach & Education

Officers assigned to the Fire Marshal Division provide fire safety guidance and instruction to civic, school and community groups as well as businesses and neighborhood watch programs throughout the City of Lancaster.

Fire Marshals respond to general inquiries about such things as the placement and operation of residential smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, fire pits and chimeneas for recreational outdoor fires, recommended types of fire extinguishers (based on occupancy and expected hazards) and use of consumer fireworks permitted under current Pennsylvania law.

The Fire Bureau personnel will discretely assist anyone who suspects or has credible evidence of fire setting by juveniles by directing them to agencies that can provide counseling and other intervention strategies intended to curtail such activity.
