When does yard waste collection happen?

Yard waste (including bagged leaves) is picked up on your regularly scheduled trash collection day certain weeks throughout the year. See the calendar for when yard waste is collected here.

 

Is there a limit for yard waste?

There is no limit for yard waste & leaf collection.

 

What about leaves that fall on the sidewalk and public right-of-way near my home?

Leaves on the sidewalk/public right-of-way areas can be swept into the street. Public Works takes care of leaves on the streets.

 

What leaves need to be bagged?

All leaves from your yard or private property must be bagged in yard waste bags for curbside pickup on your regular trash day. See the calendar here.

There is no limit for yard waste for curbside pickup.

 

What can I put in the yard waste bags?

Yard waste is material such as tree trimmings, shrubbery and other organic landscape vegetation. This does NOT include: trash, food waste, tree stumps, dirt and stones.

Please prepare your yard waste properly. Place yard waste in biodegradable brown paper bags or bundle it in easy-to-handle bundles. Bundles must not exceed 4 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, or 30 pounds in weight.

Who is eligible to pick up free yard waste bags?

Only City residents can pick up bags. Those outside the City can check with their local municipality or purchase bags from hardware stores.

 

What happens to the yard waste and leaves put into the bags?

All yard waste is sent to be composted.

Note that leaves put into the street cannot be composted due to contamination. You can help the environment by bagging your leaves properly!

 

Do you have to pick up the leaves in your yard?

No, you can leave them in your yard if you’d like. Leaves on the sidewalk & the public right-of-way do need to be cleared.
