The City of Lancaster and the Healthy Lancaster, Healthy Lives (HLHL) Advisory Committee are kicking off the HLHL initiative with a community survey launch today, aimed at assessing the health and wellbeing of residents in Lancaster City and fostering a safe and healthy community for all.

The HLHL initiative builds on prior community needs assessments and studies that have identified health disparities within the Lancaster city community. The initiative applies the Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) framework to understand the many factors influencing residents’ health, including social and community context; neighborhood and built environment; health care access and quality; economic stability; and education access and quality.

“We are committed to better understanding and addressing the health needs of our residents. Through the HLHL initiative, we hope to engage with our community partners to promote health equity and improve overall wellbeing in Lancaster City,” said Mayor Danene Sorace.

Residents will have the opportunity to contribute their input and experiences to HLHL through surveys, focus groups, and community forums. The survey launched today will be available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, and Swahili. Responses will be accepted through June 2024.

The survey will be promoted at partner locations, as well as through canvassing, community forums, and community events over the next few months.

The HLHL Advisory Committee includes leaders from Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster, Bright Side Opportunities Center, Community Action Partnership (CAP), Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster City Housing Authority, Lancaster County Food Hub, Lancaster Rec, Lancaster EMS, Lancaster LGBTQ+ Coalition, NAACP Lancaster Branch, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, Planned Parenthood Keystone, SACA Tec Centro, School District of Lancaster, Tenfold, Union Community Care, United Way of Lancaster County, YMCA of the Roses, and YWCA Lancaster. The committee will guide the initiative’s process, ensuring that it reflects the diverse needs of the community.
