Notice to Water Customers in Parts of Manor, East Hempfield & West Hempfield Townships

April 21, 2023 | Bureau of Water Department of Public Works

On Friday afternoon, the City of Lancaster Bureau of Water began preparing to repair a leak in a large transmission water main in East Hempfield Township.

During this work, customers in parts of Manor, East Hempfield and West Hempfield Townships (see map) may experience discolored water or lower water pressure. If discoloration occurs, it will only be temporary and the water will remain safe for use.

If your water is discolored, avoid using hot water or doing laundry to prevent sediment from entering your hot water system. If discoloration lessens but doesn’t clear completely, you can try running a cold water tap for 15-20 minutes to clear your plumbing.

Following the prep work, the final repairs could take up to a year to complete. You will not be without water during this time, though you may experience lower than normal water pressure.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Water Lab at (717) 291-4818 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. After hours, please call (717) 291-4816 or (717) 684-5056.
